Chelsea manager has heaped praises on his players following their impressive 3-0 victory over Leeds United.
Mason Mount gave the visitors an early lead in the 4th minute after scoring a stunning strike. The hosts were reduced to 10 men after Daniel James’ reckless tackle on Mateo Kovacic earned the Welshman a straight red. Kovacic couldn’t continue, the only blot on an otherwise excellent evening.
Christian Pulisic doubled Chelsea’s lead in the second half after a beautiful back heel assist by Mason Mount.
Romelu Lukaku sealed the victory for the night after dancing past the Leeds United defender and slotting home from a close.
Chelsea has now won their second game in six games and has now moved close to Champions League qualification ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham with the two clubs set to meet on Thursday at the Tottenham stadium.
Thomas Tuchel was full of praise for his players after the victory over Leeds and was pleased with their reaction after conceding a 97th-minute equalizer in their last match against Wolves at the weekend.
What did Tuchel say?
Speaking after the match, Thomas Tuchel said: “I think we played very, very well from the very first minute. I was very happy with the level of focus, determination, and support we showed. We were strong in the challenges, brave in our defending, and supported each other. So I’m very happy with the performance over the 90 minutes.
“We were very strong when it was eleven against eleven. Later, the focus shifts a little bit when you have one more player on the pitch because you have easier ball possession. But at the same time, the level of focus needs to stay high and you have to stay very disciplined to not allow counter-attacks because Leeds will never stop running or fighting. We did this.
“So the effort and all focus were on counter-pressing and if we made mistakes, it was a case of where we made the mistakes. We understood the game better and better when we were one man up in the second half and we did not give in. That was the most important. And it was a deserved win for good performance.
Thomas Tuchel was also pleased with the performance of Trevoh Chalobah in Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Leeds United.
The Chelsea youngster formed a strong partnership with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. A performance Thomas Tuchel must take note of with two matches remaining.
Thomas Tuchel continued: “He can deliver these performances and he played a lot, so there is no reason to be disappointed in him. He has an unbelievable amount of matches from the start [of the season] and we know this. It’s normal to have a bit of an up and down in terms of positive performance, that is normal.
“We informed the team very late today who plays. He did not expect it. It was the same against West Ham where he came in on the short notice. In both matches he delivered. This is the level he can deliver.
“It’s about consistency. He lacked it a little in the last weeks and we did some other normal choices. But he needs to stay humble and hard-working and he can be a big part of it.”
