Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that Sadio Mane’s selflessness and humility were one of the reasons why Bayern Munich went beyond the line to sign Mane from Liverpool.
Sadio Mane was unveiled as Bayern Munich’s new player on Wednesday after his €41 million transfer to Liverpool.
The Senegalese international ended his six years spell at Liverpool scoring 120 goals in 269 appearances. Mane won the Champions League, the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup with Liverpool.
What did Nagelsmann say about Sadio Mane?
In an interview with the club’s official website, the Bayern Munich manager said: “Very [excited by the arrival of Mane]; right from the first conversation, he made a very selfless impression, which is extraordinary for a player with such a big name.
“He said, quite modestly, he can imagine himself in any position. It’s rare to experience that in a first conversation, a player puts themselves completely at the service of the club and the coach. That made our urge to get the signing over the line even greater.”
The former RB Leipzig manager added: “We are Bayern Munich, we always have the chance to bid for big stars.
“Sometimes we hit financial limits, especially with guys who are playing in England. That was different with Sadio because he has a great desire for our project, our club, and his teammates. I was delighted.
“We can’t say that for sure yet. We have to wait and see what happens in the transfer market. But Sadio is a player who can easily play in four or five positions – and can also switch during the match.”
Meanwhile, Darren Bent expects Diego Jota to replace Said Mane.
The former England international said vai talkSPORTS; “I don’t think you can replace him straight away just man-for-man because I think he’s too good.
“But if (Luis) Diaz gets his numbers up in terms of goals and assists and Jota’s scoring goals… He was kind of the forgotten man towards the end of last season but he stepped in and was brilliant. Diaz, Firmino’s still there and obviously, Salah speaks for himself, so they’ve still got so many different options in that front three areas.”
Sadio Mane signed a three years contract with The Bundesliga Champions. He is expected to earn €250,000 weekly.
