According to police, a Virginia educator was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a pupil in Prince William County.
Tavon D’Andre Town, age 31, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of forcible sodomy, and one count of obscene liberties on Wednesday.
Police told Fox 5 DC that a sexual assault involving a student under the age of 15 occurred in Dumfries last month at a residence in the 1500 block of Sandpiper Bay Loop.
The incident investigation revealed that Town knew the female victim because she was a pupil at the school where he worked. On March 30, they agreed to meet outside of school.
FOX 5 reported that Town picked up the victim, gave her marijuana, and then drove her to his residence in Dumfries. Once inside, Town sexually assaulted her before returning her to school and dropping her off.
A police investigation was initiated after the incident was reported to authorities.
In a letter to parents, Prince William County Public Schools announced that Tavon Town, a teacher at Fred Lynn Middle School, had been detained on suspicion of sexually assaulting a kid outside of school grounds. “Mr. Town is on leave while the investigation is ongoing,” it says.
“Please note that this is a personnel matter that will follow due process, and by law, I cannot provide further details,” the letter said.
“This allegation has both startled and disappointed me. This does not represent our excellent school or our dedicated staff who care deeply about our students and the community. As usual, I urge you to speak with your pupils and remind them that they should notify you or another responsible adult right away if they ever feel uncomfortable at school or see anything alarming.
