Erling Haaland has revealed that because of his Dad and being a Manchester City fan for his whole life made him choose Manchester City ahead of other suitors.
Manchester City had to beat competition from Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Manchester City unveiled Erling Haaland on Monday after paying his €60m release clause from Borussia Dortmund.
Erling Haaland joined Borussia Dortmund fron Red Bull Salzburg for €20m in 2020.Erling Haaland impressed in two years stay at Dortmund scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund. He won the Champions League top goal scorer in 20121.
Haaland’s father Alfie Haaland spent three seasons at Manchester City and made 47 appearances for the Citizens before injury forced him to retire at age 30.
What did Erling Haaland say as the reason he chose Manchester City?
In an interview with the club’s official website, Haaland said when he was asked why he chose Manchester City, He replied: “First of all, my father, a little bit.
“I was born in England. I have been a City fan my whole life. I know a lot about the club.
“In the end, [deciding to sign was down to] two things. I feel at home here and I feel I can develop and get the best out of my game at City.
“I like the style (of play). I like attacking football. I like the positive vibe we have when City plays football.
“This is what I like a lot, so I think it’s a good fit.”
Erling Haaland also shared his experience at the Etihad Stadium. a stadium he played in 2021 with Dortmund in the Champions League and has also watched football games with his parents when he was young.
Haaland on the Etihad: “I have been there a couple of times before watching games.
“I like it. It is beautiful, I like the color! It’s a big, huge stadium and I like to play there.”
He continued: “I have been to a lot of games (there). I don’t remember, but I have been to a lot of games with my mum, sister, and brother watching my father play.”
Meanwhile, Haaland believes joining Manchester City under Pep Guardiola will help him develop.
Haaland said: “I think I can develop a lot under Pep and in this Club.
“I think I can get better at a lot of things and hopefully I can score a lot of (goals).
“I have spoken a little bit with him. We are both looking forward to working together.”
