The former Arsenal player believes Chelsea can not afford to offload Romelu Lukaku this summer and the Blues has no choice but to stick with the Belgian striker.
Romelu Lukaku has failed to live up to expectations since his big-money move from Inter Milan to Chelsea.
Chelsea paid 98 million pounds for the service of the Belgian striker.
The 28 years, old Chelsea striker has been linked with moves to Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain, and Inter Milan, having already admitted in an interview with Sky sport that he would want to return to inter Milan.
Lukaku has found the net 5 times in 23 Premier League appearances this season for Chelsea and has spent most of the season injured or on the bench.
The Belgian striker has lost his place in Chelsea’s starting lineup to Kai Havertz and has fallen out with Thomas Tuchel after his controversial interview with Sky Sports around Christmas, discussing his unhappiness at Chelsea and professing his love for Inter.
However, Paul Merson believes Romelu Lukaku will stay at Chelsea next season and no club will be willing to pay the £70 price tag Chelsea has placed on him e Premier League club cannot afford to sell a player for half the price they paid, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding the club and its takeover.
What was said?
Paul Merson told Sky Sports that:‘’Chelsea hasn’t got many choices but to keep going with Romelu Lukaku.
‘They’re getting sold, they haven’t got any money, they can’t be buying people for £100m and selling them for half that.
‘That ain’t happening. For me, I think he’ll be staying there, and hopefully, he kicks on next season.’
Meanwhile, Paul Merson Believes Rudiger will be a huge loss to Chelsea
Antonio Rudiger has agreed to Real Madrid at the end of the season after he ran down his contract at Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel thought the purchase of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan will help solve Chelsea goal scoring woes but The Belgian striker has failed to replicate his goal scoring form at Inter Milan last season.
According to James Olley,Thomas Tuchel currently believes Chelsea are a more potent force without Romelu Lukaku and therefore it is not difficult to imagine the club considering transfer offers for him this summer.
Paul Merson believes Chelsea will miss the 29 years old German defender and claims Rudiger remands former Chelsea defender David Luis.
The former Arsenal attacking Midfielder added:‘Rudiger will be a massive loss, I can’t express how big that’s going to be.’
‘If Chelsea played a four at the back, he wouldn’t be missed. He can only go and play somewhere in a three.
‘He reminds me of a David Luiz – he’ll go and chase the ball, close down, go out of position – but in a three he can go and take that chance.’
Chelsea are currently in the transfer market seeking to replace Antonio Rudiger.
Thomas Tuchel has recently admitted that Chelsea will find it difficult to replace the German international in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea Midfielder Jorginho also said in an interview with Sky Sports that Chelsea will miss big personality Antonio Rudiger next season
