Manchester United announced the signing of Erik Ten Hag on a three years deal on their official website on 21st April 2022.
The Dutch international will be the seventh manager to manage the Old Trafford club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
The Red Devils had failed to win a major trophy since 2017 when they won the Europa League and nine years since they won the Premier League.
United had endured another embarrassing season where they are sixth in the Premier League and had accumulated one of the less points in Club history.
Despite Manchester United’s poor season, Cristiano Ronaldo has been phenomenal scoring 24 goals and 24 goals in 39 matches including 17 goals in the Premier League.
There have been reports suggesting that the 37 years old might leave Manchester United after the Red Devils missed out on Champions League football next season.
According to the Telegraph, Ten Hag wants Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Old Trafford as he believes the 37 years old Portuguese could play a vital role for Manchester United next season.
Cristiano Ronaldo has one year left on his Manchester United contract and it will be prudent if Manchester United allows him to run down his contract at Old Trafford.
Erik Ten Hag is expected to bring his own backroom staff as he starts to move Manchester United to his former glory.
What did Ronaldo say?
Cristiano Ronaldo believes if the Erik Ten Hag is given time he can make Manchester United a genuine title contender and restore them to the summit of football.
‘I know that he has done a fantastic job at Ajax and that he is an experienced coach, but we have to give him time,’ Ronaldo told United’s official website.
‘Things must change the way he wants.
‘If he does well, all of Manchester United will be successful, so I wish him well. We are all happy and excited [about his arrival], not only as players but as fans as well.
‘We have to believe that next year we can win titles.’
Erik Ten Hag will have a big job on his hand when he resumes work this summer with ‘Big names’ like Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, and Jesse Lingard all expected to leave Old Trafford.
It now falls on the Dutch international to replace these players and also strengthen other departments within the team.
Manchester United are already in the transfer market seeking to replace these stars with the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Declan Rice all on the transfer list of Manchester United.
Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Erik Ten Hag should build his team around two players.
He told Prime Slots: ‘If you’re talking about the League Cup or the FA Cup, Harry Kane may have a chance at Tottenham, but if you’re talking about the Premier League and the Champions League, then he needs to move.’
‘You can see that Antonio Conte is getting frustrated with recruitment, both adding and selling players, so if he doesn’t continue in his role as manager, then Kane doesn’t have a chance and he will need to leave.
‘I don’t know if he [Ten Hag] will, but if I was Man United, and I was reconstructing the squad, he would be one that I would buy.
