A West Virginia firefighter died trying to save a murder-suicide driver’s mother and child.

John Forbush, a volunteer firefighter, died in the line of duty, leaving behind a small daughter and a long-term companion.

A mother from Ohio and her infant boy perished in West Virginia after the woman purposely drove her car into a river, killing a young volunteer firefighter who tried to save them, according to authorities.


In a statement released earlier this week, state fire marshals stated that they had concluded that LaTonya Bell and her 8-year-old passenger, Havana Pipkins, were near the vehicle when it crashed into the Elk River in Sutton, West Virginia, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
