Former Manchester United player Luke Chadwick has urged the Red Devils to sign Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen has made an incredible comeback after suffering a life-threatening cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 last summer and has been impressive for Brentford since signing for the Premier League side in January.
The Denmark midfielder has scored 1 goal and provided 3 assists in the Premier League since January.
Christian Eriksen’s contract with Brentford expires this summer but Luke Chadwick believes the former Tottenham midfielder will be an ideal signing for Erik Ten Hag’s side.
What was said?
The former Manchester United Ace told CaughtOffside that: “You’d definitely take some of the free agents out there this summer. It’s been a difficult season for United so you’d want to see new blood coming in, creating a bit more competition, boosting morale.’’
“Eriksen – it’s been incredible to see him back on a football pitch after those horrifying scenes last summer, let alone to see how well he’s performing. He offers something different, something that United doesn’t really have at the moment with the quality of his passing and his technique on set plays.
“He’s not the most physical player and wasn’t quite at his best towards the end of his time at Spurs, or during his time at Inter Milan, but he’s now playing with so much freedom.
“Brentford were really poor when United beat them at Old Trafford last week but I thought Eriksen was a real shining light for them. He created the best opportunities they had.
“I think those players would add something, and as free agents, they look like the kind of players United should be trying to get. I’d definitely take Eriksen, he’d definitely add something to this United squad.
Fabrizio Romano also wrote in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside that Tottenham and Leicester United were interested in signing Christian Eriksen for free.
“There are three Premier League clubs that are well informed about Eriksen’s situation: Tottenham and Leicester United are keeping tabs on it, but have not yet made any proposals because everything will depend on Christian’s decisions, who asked to wait for the end of the season. The third club is still secret,” Romano wrote.
“Inter Milan has the biggest regret: Simone Inzaghi and the entire board of the club wanted to keep him but for the Serie A rules it was impossible given the medical intervention that Eriksen had to undergo.
“We see now that that is Italian football’s loss, as Eriksen has been a joy to watch in the Premier League, and, whatever happens with him this summer, this remarkable comeback story will continue, most likely in England, next season.”
Luke Chadwick has also admitted that he fears Paul Pogba joining Manchester City.
Chadwick told CaughtOffside: “I think it would be a really surprising move,” Chadwick told CaughtOffside. “Not many players move between Manchester United and Manchester City, obviously Carlos Tevez is the famous recent example.
“I would fear Pogba moving to City because I could see him doing well there and that would be another negative for Manchester United because they couldn’t get the best out of him. I’d be more comfortable with him going to someone like Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain.
“He’s a world-class player on his day and he could go to City and hit the ground running. The way City play, and the way they press, isn’t exactly the way you’d imagine Pogba being the most natural fit. They all run their socks off for Pep Guardiola, and though I’m sure Pogba could do that, it’s not really his style. His strengths are when he’s on the ball.
“It would be a really strange one and one I hope doesn’t happen. I just worry that under Pep he’d become the world-beater we know he can be.”
