Bob Lanier started his career in high school and performed so marvelously even though he was ignored at the beginning. Bob was named junior to the All-City team where he scored 21.5 points.
Lanier earned the All-Western New York State honors when he averaged 25.0 points. He led St. Bonaventure to the NCAA Final Four as a senior in 1970. From 1968 to 1970 he was a three-time Converse All-America selection.
He couldn’t play at St. Bonaventure’s national semifinals because his knee was injured. His team lost to Jacksonville University. At the Eastern College Athletic Conference, he was selected as the Player of the Year by Coach and Athlete Magazine.
Bob Lanier graduated with a degree in business administration and he earned St Bonaventure records for averaging 27.6 points and 15,7 rebounds with 57% shooting in 75 games. His career didn’t end after uni. In the 1970 NBA draft, he was the first to be picked by the NBA’s Detroit Positions.
