According to Palestinian local health officials, at least 140 people across Gaza have been killed in Israeli gunfire and strikes in the past 24 hours. Some Palestinians in the strip said their plight was being forgotten as attention has shifted to the air war between Israel and Iran.
On Wednesday Gaza’s health ministry said at least 40 people were killed over the past day as a result of Israeli gunfire and airstrikes. In the three weeks after Israel partially relaxed its blockade of the region, Palestinians seeking aid have been killed almost daily.
Medics said separate airstrikes on homes in the Maghazi refugee camp, the Zeitoun neighbourhood and Gaza City killed at least 21 people, while five others were killed in an airstrike on an encampment in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

According to medics, fourteen more Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire on the Salahuddin route in central Gaza as they waited for aid vehicles brought in by the United Nations.
When asked about the Salahuddin Road incident, the Israel Defense Forces stated that, despite repeated warnings that the area was an active combat zone, individuals approached troops operating in the Nuseirat sector of the central Gaza Strip in a way that constituted a threat to forces.
Troops fired warning shots, according to the report, and no casualties were reported. Regarding additional strikes, the IDF stated that it was “operating to dismantle Hamas military capabilities” while taking “feasible precautions to mitigate civilian harm.”

On Tuesday, Gaza’s health ministry reported that 397 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3,000 wounded since aid delivery resumed in late May.
Some Gazans voiced concern that the most recent escalation in Israel’s fight with Hamas, which began in October 2023, will be neglected owing to the new Israel-Iran confrontation.
