A Maryland man has been given a 25-year prison term for the 40-year-old murder of a mother of four.
According to a press release, Howard Jackson Bradberry Jr., 64, who had pleaded guilty in July to a charge of second-degree murder in the 1982 slaying of Laney Lee McGadney, 28, received a sentence of 25 years in prison on Thursday from Howard County Circuit Court Judge Richard Bernhardt.
An Alford plea permits the defendant to maintain their innocence while admitting the prosecution has enough evidence to convict.
Witnesses saw mother-of-four McGadney being kidnapped while walking to the supermarket in Columbia, Maryland. Hours later, her body was located in a deserted lot.
