Former Manchester United striker Chicharito has tipped Cristiano Ronaldo to score 44 goals if he stays at Manchester United this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo was Manchester United’s top goals scorer last season scoring 24 goals in 39 appearances including 18 goals in the Premier League; the third most in the Premier League only Son Heung- Min and Mohamed Salah scored more (23).
The five times Balon dor winner has been linked with a move from Old Trafford. It is still unknown where Cristiano Ronaldo’s next club will be after Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Napoli all rejected the chance to sign the 37-year-old.
However, Chicharito believes Cristiano Ronaldo could set a new goal-scoring record if he stays at Old Trafford.
What did Chicharito say about Cristiano Ronaldo?
“Time will tell what is going to happen with him – but what if Ronaldo stays and scores 40 goals?,” the former Mexican international said.
“That could happen.”
The two times Premier League winner with Manchester United under Sir Alex Fegersion believes the time has come for Manchester United to get over Sir Alex Fegersion and start a new era.
The LA Galaxy forward continued: “United needs to get over the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson has gone.
“Would we like to have someone similar? Yes, yes, yes – but Sir Alex has gone and it is never going to be the same.
“It doesn’t surprise me what has happened at United because in life it’s not easy having a manager for 26 years in the way that Sir Alex did it.
“One of his greatest aptitudes, in my humble opinion, was that probably seven out of 10 players who signed worked out.
“That’s not easy – not for Real Madrid or Barcelona or even for Chelsea, (Manchester) City, Liverpool or Bayern Munich.
“It is like winning the lottery. Do you think anyone you hire afterward is going to be able to do even 80 percent of what Ferguson did?”
Chicharito has indicated that if Manchester United comes calling he is willing to play for the Red Devils for free.
“If United came for me, I’d say okay, I’ll play for free,” the Mexican admitted. “You know, I’d do that without a doubt.
“I also want to be very respectful to my club. I am playing very consistently and in my mind, my conviction is all about winning a championship with LA Galaxy.
“In the future, if things happen then they happen – but in my mind, I am 100 percent with LA.”
Manchester United lost their first Premier League game on Saturday against Brighton at Old Trafford. Cristiano Ronaldo started the game from the bench. Manchester United was rumored to be interested in Marko Arnautovic.
The club has abandoned the pursuit of Marko Arnautovic after a protest by Manchester United fans on social media.
