Liverpool attacker Diego Jota has revealed that Liverpool is ready to win all titles after signing a new Liverpool contract that will see him stay at the Club till 2027.
Jurgen Klopp’s side won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup last season but missed out on the major ones which are the Premier League to Manchester City and the Champions League to Real Madrid.
The Reds were one point shy of Premier League champions Manchester City. Manchester City had 93 points while Liverpool had 92 points.
Diego Jota was part of the Liverpool team that won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. The Portuguese international had scored 34 goals in 85 appearances since his £40 million to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old has stressed that Liverpool is willing to fight for all titles this season.
What did Diego Jota say?
Jota in an interview with Liverpool.com after signing his contract extension said: “When you fight for everything like we did last year, you just want to do it again and to do it better because it’s possible. That drive is in me and I know it’s in my teammates and all the staff. We have everything to fight for those titles out.”
The Portuguese international also shared his excitement after signing the contract extension with Liverpool.
Diego Jota said: ‘Well, [I’m] really proud, I have to say.
“Obviously since I arrived two years ago I established myself as an important player in this team – that’s what I wanted from the beginning.
“Now, signing a new long-term deal, it’s obviously from the club’s perspective proof of the belief in myself as a player. For me, obviously, it’s really good to establish I’ll be here for a while. So, the beginning of a new season, let’s do it.”
The 25-year-old is currently injured and missed Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Singapore and their community shield Victory over Manchester City on Saturday.
Diego Jota continued: “Unfortunately for me, I had an upset in this pre-season because I got injured [in the] last game of the season playing with Portugal,’ he explained. ‘So I was coming back in this pre-season, I felt it a little bit again. So it will be a few more weeks, I would say.”
Reacting to Diego Jota’s contract extension, Jurgen Klopp said: “What Diogo has brought to this team and this club since he arrived is there for all to see, so it is really good news that he has signed a new contract.
“Brilliant, brilliant news, I would say.
“His qualities are obvious. He scores goals – not a bad quality – he works unbelievably hard for the team, his pressing and counter-pressing are on an unbelievable level, he can play in all of our attacking roles and he has an incredible attitude. Not a bad package. Not bad at all.
“As a striker who can play on the wing, he gives us so many options and since he came to Liverpool he has improved so much.
“I have said before that Diogo is the player we hoped he would be but also a little bit better, so long may this continue.”
