Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 to win their 14th Champions League at Stade de France, the most by any Club in the competition’s history. The only club that comes close is Italian Champions AC Milan which has won 7 times.
Carlo Ancelotti who made history yesterday to become the first coach to win the Champions League on four different occasions Claims Liverpool is the easier team to prepare a game plan against and they are also easy to beat because of their high defensive line as compared to Chelsea.
The Los Blancos on the route to the finals of this year’s Champions League finals had to beat Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester City. Real Madrid defeated this team in an incredible fashion as they had to perform miraculous comebacks against these teams.
What did Ancelotti say?
Speaking at a press conference after the 1-0 victory against Liverpool he said: “Looking back, people said oh PSG were unlucky, Chelsea were unlucky, Manchester City were unlucky, this was practically the only game where people thought we were more or less on the same level.
“I think it helped that Liverpool was easier to decipher than the others because they have a very clear identity and we could prepare the way that we did. We knew what strategy to take, don’t give them space behind the defense to run into.
“Perhaps our football wasn’t extraordinarily beautiful tonight on an aesthetic level, but playing out from the back to incentivize their pressing wasn’t a great idea.
“We had a few more long balls, then when their press in our half of the pitch lessened, we got to control the ball more especially in the second half.’
Carlo Ancelotti also admitted this season’s Champions League was difficult to win after beating Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester City.
He said: “This European Cup has been the most difficult one.
“What helped us was the fact that everyone thought we couldn’t win and that made the team show commitment, confidence, and fight.
“We’ve created a good atmosphere. Our individual quality has made the difference. We deserved to win this competition. From the last 16, we’ve had to work hard for it, but we’ve never given up”.
“We managed the game well. It was important to get behind their defense. The back four all played well because Liverpool couldn’t play balls in behind us. When they pressed less, we managed the game better. Liverpool hasn’t lost many games this season”.
Carlo Ancelotti also claims that the Claims Real Madrid’s history in the Champions League makes it easy to win the Champions League.
Ancelotti continued: “It’s easier to win the Champions League with Real Madrid than with any other club because of the club’s history and the fans’ commitment.
“The fans are special and support the team from when they’re kids. The club’s set-up makes it special. I’m delighted to have won four Champions Leagues, but I’m even happier about having returned to Madrid. We’ve had a spectacular season.
“ I‘ll never be able to thank the president, José Ángel, and the players enough for the great atmosphere they have created”.
