Leicester City manager has heaped praise on Thomas Tuchel ahead of Thursday’s Premier League encounter with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Rodgers claims Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side is the best team he has ever faced.
Chelsea started the Premier League very well but Covid-19 problems coupled with injuries and sanctions to their owner Roman Abramovich affected the team’s performance on the field. Chelsea see themselves in the third position with two matches remaining in Premier League.
The Blues were eliminated by Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and lost two Cup finals to Liverpool. the FA Cup final defeat was Thomas Tuchel‘s three consecutive Cup defeat at Wembley.
However, Rodgers believes Thomas Tuchel can turn things around and Chelsea will bounce back stronger next season.
What did Rodgers say?
Speaking at a press conference Rodgers said: “I’m a big admirer of Chelsea and the team and the work Thomas has done there.
“I would go as far as to say they are the best team we have played this season. When we played them early on in the season they were at the top of their game. I thought they were outstanding.
“Not long after that moment, they lost some players. I’ve said it before, even with squads like Chelsea’s you need your top players available.
“Over the course of the time they have had players out, key players who make the systems function to the highest level.
“Then obviously there are the distractions behind the scenes and of course, that’s a challenge.
“But what I do know is they’ve got an outstanding manager who has done a fantastic job since he’s been there. They’ve got a group of really good players, top, top talents.”
He added:‘I saw them lose in the FA Cup final but they have so much courage because they keep getting there.
“You’d rather be in there and losing finals – of course, you want to win – but you’d rather be arriving there knowing it’s going to drop your way and you’re going to win in the future.
“So they are a top team, with top players and they are in the Champions League next season, and I expect them to be up there challenging again next season.”
Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel insists Chelsea should win the Leicester match for the Fans.
He said: “My feeling was that the whole season we were in position one, two or three. Somebody told me for one week we were placed number four, I thought we were not. So it’s not a good moment to start now to be fourth.
“We still have to play for us, our demands, our fans. Most importantly for our expectations and what we demand. We are very happy we secured a top-four place, this is what the first target when we start the season, what we play for but still it is two home games and we will do everything to win them for our feeling, our supporters and for a positive end of the season”
