In the aftermath of the massacres that took place at an elementary school in Texas and a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, supporters of tougher gun control have begun to unite behind the cause.
Recently, Republican Representative Chris Jacobs, who was facing criticism from his party for supporting efforts in Congress led by Democrats to approve contentious gun control measures, announced his retirement from the House of Representatives. The criticism he faced stemmed from the fact that he backed efforts in Congress to approve contentious gun control measures.
After expressing his support for a ban on assault rifles and other comparable weapons in the United States Congress, Jacobs, who now serves as the representative for New York’s 27th congressional district, said that he will not be running for re-election in the future.
The following statement was made by him addressing the problem of firearms and gun violence during an impromptu press conference: “the last thing we need is an incredibly harsh, half-truth-filled media campaign supported by millions of dollars in money from special interest groups.”
Democratic lawmakers are considering the possibility of establishing new limits on the purchase of firearms in light of the recent shootings that took place in a primary school in Texas and a supermarket in New York.
