Two persons were detained in Kentucky in connection with an alleged murder after investigators said they believed they recovered the corpse of a 4-year-old child who had been reported missing this week but had not been seen since September.
According to a Friday announcement on the Whitley County Sheriff Department’s Facebook page, a corpse believed to be Chloe Darnel was located and transferred to the medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy and confirmed identification.
According to the sheriff’s department, Brittany Slaughter, 24, and Adam Hayes, 34, both of Williamsburg, Kentucky, are charged with murder, as well as mistreatment of a body and tampering with physical evidence. According to the sheriff’s department, Slaughter was in charge of Chloe.
Her last name is spelt differently on a verified GoFundMe page for Chloe than it was by the sheriff’s department.
According to the GoFundMe page set up by a family member, Chloe “was a bright happy child” who had a “unhappy ending.” According to the fundraiser, Slaughter is Chloe’s aunt.
According to the GoFundMe, relatives and acquaintances of the youngster got concerned after being unable to see or speak to the girl for the last month. The fundraiser said that Chloe has seven siblings.
In other investigative news, the sheriff’s department announced on Wednesday that it was seeking for a red Mitsubishi Lancer that Slaughter was purportedly driving before she and Chloe vanished. According to the sheriff’s department, the two have been reported missing, and “initial reports indicate Chloe has not been seen since late September of this year.”
The sheriff’s department reported finding the car it was seeking for on Thursday. According to the sheriff’s department, Slaughter was discovered uninjured on the same day.
No one from the sheriff’s department could be reached for comment on Saturday.
