The mountain was once called Gustavus Doane Mountain before it was renamed its current name.

Officials with the National Park Service have decided to give Yellowstone National Park’s Mount Doane the new name First Peoples Mountain. The mountain is located in Yellowstone National Park.

On Thursday, the National Park Service made the statement that the name of the first national park in the United States had been changed to remove an “offensive phrase” from the title of the park. This change was done to modernize the name.

In the end, all of the members of the United States Board on Geographic Names came to the same opinion and achieved an agreement.
