On Sunday evening in a Houston, Texas residence, a three-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed her four-year-old sister.
At a press conference, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that the incident was reported just before 8 o’clock local time.
The incident happened when five people, including the two girls, visited an apartment on Bammel North Houston Road close to Tomball Parkway. All of the adults were family members and friends.
Gonzalez claims that the girls’ parents resided at the apartment.
One parent thought the other was watching the girls, so the girls were left in a bedroom alone at one point during the night. According to Gonzalez, the three-year-old then discovered a loaded gun and fired once, hitting her sibling.
At the scene, the four-year-old daughter was pronounced deceased.
After hearing the shooting, family members rushed to the bedroom, collected the weapon, and reported the incident to the police.
At this moment, it is unknown if any charges will be brought in relation to the shooting. Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
