The very first Super Bowl match was held on the 15th of January 1967. The match was played between the Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. In this inaugural Super Bowl match, the Green Bay Packers team took the trophy home after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs team 35 to 10. The match was played at Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles.

Originally, the Super Bowl match was called the World Championship Game of AFL and NFL. Following the two leagues merging, the National Football League was divided into the National Football and American Football Conferences. Today, Super Bowl is the most viewed sports match in the United States. The Super Bowl is held every year.

It determines the National Football League champion. With millions of NFL fans gathering around their TVs to watch Super Bowl, this sports event feels like a national holiday. The Super Bowl is also extremely popular among American and other sports bettors. Super Bowl matches are usually held in January or February. Matches are broadcasted in over one hundred and seventy countries which makes the Super Bowl one of the most popular, most watched sports events. 

The Super Bowl is also famous for its halftime shows that most certainly add to the overall appeal. During the 70s, the NFL was definitely dominated by the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys. These three NFL franchises together won eight trophies.

NFL franchises competing in the National Football Conference won sixteen Super Bowls out of twenty matches played back in the 80s and 90s. Back in the 80s and 90s, the National Football League was dominated by the Washington Redskins, New York Giants, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers. 

In the late 90s, the Buffalo Bills also emerged on the scene as another NFL powerhouse. The team never won the shiniest Super Bowl title, but they were very close to winnings four times.

After four Buffalo Bills’ losses in a row, the American Football Conference finally bounced back thanks to the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Indianapolis Colts that dominated the AFC conference. 

More specifically, these AFC teams competed in twenty out of the twenty-two Super Bowl games held from 1995 to 2016. One of the NFL powerhouses is most certainly the New England Patriots team led by the amazing Tom Brady. The team competed in nine Super Bowl matches and won six titles.

Super Bowl LVI – One of the Most Memorable Matchups

The Super Bowl LVI was played on the 13th of February 2022, so very recently. The game determined the NFL champion for the NFL 2021 regular season. The Super Bowl LVI match was played between the Los Angeles Rams team that won the National Football Conference championship and the Cincinnati Bengals team that won the American Football Conference championship.

Despite certain Covid-19 restrictions, the SoFi Stadium located in California was attended by over 70,000 people. In addition, over 112 million people gathered around their TVs to watch the Super Bowl match between the Bengals and Rams, according to this and other reports on this year’s Super Bowl attendance  

In the end, the Rams defeated the Bengals 23 to 20. The most valuable player was Cooper Kupp a wide receiver playing for the LA Rams. Speaking of the Super Bowl attendance, the most attended Super Bowl match was played in 1980 in Pasadena. The Super Bowl XIV between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Rams was attended by over 103,000 people. Still, the Super Bowl LVI is one of the most memorable NFL matchups.

Super Bowl LVI – Record Highs in the Amounts of Wagered

By all accounts, the Super Bowl LVI smashed quite a few betting records after attracting record interest among American sports bettors. According to a report released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, over $179 million was invested by Nevada sports bettors on the Super Bowl LVI match. 

Essentially, this staggering figure surpassed the previous record of over $158 million. Over $158 million was invested by sports bettors on the Super Bowl LII match which was played between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. Sportsbooks operating in Nevada collected a total of over $15 million on this year’s Super Bowl match.

According to other reports, sports bettors across all other states invested over $500 on the Super Bowl LVI. More specifically, sports bettors in the state of Pennsylvania invested over $68 million, while New Jersey sports bettors invested over $143 million on the Super Bowl LVI. 

The state of Illinois also reported that its sports bettors invested over $60 on this year’s Super Bowl game. The state of New York did not release any official figures, but we know that sportsbooks operating in the state took over $472 million in wagers in the week when the Super Bowl LVI was held.
