Derek Chauvin, a former member of the Minneapolis Police Department, was found guilty of the murder of George Floyd and given a sentence of 22 and a half years in jail.
This Wednesday marks the second anniversary of the day when George Floyd passed away while being held in custody in Minneapolis.
Floyd was apprehended by the Minneapolis police on May 25 outside of the Cup Foods supermarket on the suspicion that he was paying for his items with counterfeit money. During the nine minutes that Floyd spent attempting to alert them to the fact that he was having trouble breathing, Officer Derek Chauvin, who was on duty at the time, kneeled on his neck.

The video footage of his arrest and subsequent shooting led to demonstrations taking place in cities all over the country and calls for reform in the police force.
During the months of demonstrations, a great number of people were murdered and injured. It is estimated that the riots caused damages worth something in the area of one billion dollars.
