The former first lady declares her support for “individual freedom.”
Melania Trump, the former first lady, told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that she had a conversation with the late president before penning her self-titled memoir, which included her support for abortion.
“He was aware of my stance from the moment we first spoke, and I support individual liberty. What I want to do with my body is up to me to determine. She added in an exclusive interview with “Sunday Morning Futures” that she didn’t want the government meddling in her personal affairs.
“I think it’s very important and, as I said in the book, and it’s very well explained in the chapter, ‘What does my body, my choice mean?’ because timing really matters and also the restrictions, so I encourage people to read it because we live in a world that everybody should have individual freedom,” she said.
Apparently, Trump is pushing her impending “Melania” biography, which revealed to many of her husband’s fans a startling fact about her position on the contentious subject, referring to abortion as a “fundamental right of individual liberty,” as reported last Wednesday.
According to reports, she stated, “We must ensure that women have the freedom to choose whether or not to have children, based only on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government.”
“Why should the woman’s actions with her own body be dictated by anybody else except herself? If a woman wants to end her pregnancy, she can do so since it is her fundamental right to individual liberty, or her own life. Limiting a woman’s autonomy to decide whether to end an unwelcome pregnancy is tantamount to taking away her authority over her own body. I have lived my whole adult life according to this principle.”
The disclosure sparked a barrage of reactions from people all over the political spectrum. Pro-lifers attacked her, claiming that her viewpoint is incompatible with her Catholic religion.
The advocacy group Students for Life of America’s president, Kristan Hawkins, referred to the viewpoint as “anti-feminist” and the “opposite of empowerment.”
Lila Rose and Marjorie Dannenfelser, head of the pro-life advocacy group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, were among many who also expressed disapproval of the position.
Joy Behar, co-host of “The View,” on the left, called Trump’s pro-choice position a “big scam” and accused her of lying about it.
The topic of why making the discovery just before the election has been raised by others.
Trump said to Bartiromo, “That was not written in the last week or the last month.”
That was and is my belief, and I wanted to include that in the book because I want to be genuine. That book was written months before, and it was published months before. I encourage readers to pick up the book so they may learn a lot of information that was never covered. This is my tale, and I’m quite picky about what I do, where I go, and whether or not I give interviews. This is my viewpoint and the reality; a lot of lies and disinformation have been written about me, thus the book “Melania” will expose my reality.”
