Real Madrid has agreed to pay Borussia Dortmund an initial £88.5 million for midfielder Jude Bellingham; Carlo Ancelotti’s side already has Luka Modric, Fede Valverde, Toni Kroos, and Aurelien Tchouameni as midfield options.
Even though Bellingham was one of the most sought-after midfielders ahead of this summer’s transfer window, it served as a reminder that Real Madrid has a rich history in that position.
The Spanish titans have an abundance of talented young midfielders. Aurelien Tchouameni, 23, signed a six-year contract with the club after joining for £68m from Monaco. Eduardo Camavinga, 20, arrived 12 months earlier for £35m from Rennes. Federico Valverde, 24, is approaching 200 appearances for the club.
Real have the ideal balance of youth and experience in the middle of the field with Dani Ceballos, who is one of Ancelotti’s surprise talents of the season at age 26, as well as Luka Modric, 37, and Toni Kroos, 33, who, despite having a combined age of 70, is still essential to this Real side competing on multiple fronts this season.
However, Bellingham’s transfer to Real Madrid is imminent after the Spanish club agreed to a contract with Borussia Dortmund for an initial sum of £88.5 million.
The 19-year-old, who left his hometown club Birmingham in 2020 for Germany, had always fantasized about joining the La Liga giants.
