Anne Frank’s response to the question of what she appreciated most about the invasion was, “I have the feeling that friends are on the way.”
On June 6, 1944, the day before D-Day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued a rallying call to the nation in which he affirmed the steadfast faith of the United States.
The prayer that FDR led on D-Day was broadcast all over the country and around the world to service members and occupied nations. “Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity,” was the text of the prayer.
Others in the United States are of the opinion that his rallying call to spiritual arms may be able to assist in bringing the nation back together and honoring the service and sacrifice of our armed forces veterans and active-duty personnel.
