Corey Michael Payton, at 44 years old, has been arrested 139 times for felony-level offenses and has been convicted of 30 of those offenses.
On Sunday, an individual from Florida was brought into jail after he cut his ankle monitor, locked himself in his apartment, and then fled via a window. All of these events occurred in the same building.
At around 3:54 in the morning on Sunday, tenants of the Sandalwood Apartments in Wildwood called the number for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office to report a strange car that had just crashed into a building and that the occupants of the vehicle had fled the scene.
According to a press statement released by the sheriff’s office, the suspect, who was later discovered to be 44 years old and given the name Corey Michael Payton, was found trapped within the apartment on the second level that he was burglarizing.
After receiving indications that Payton had threatened to murder police officers, the authorities evacuated a number of different apartments.
