Between the years 2020 and 2021, there was a 15 percent increase in the number of deaths that were caused by drug overdoses in the state of Virginia.
A new study that was conducted by the Department of Health in the State of Virginia projects that there will be an increase in the total number of drug overdose deaths in the year 2021.
According to the study conducted during the fourth quarter, there would be an increase of 15 percent in the number of deaths caused by overdoses in 2021. According to the reports, 2,033 persons lost their lives as a direct result of synthetic fentanyl. In the year 2021, opiates and heroin were the primary causes of fatal drug overdoses in the state of Virginia. Cocaine was the third leading cause, accounting for 801 of those fatalities.
