When it comes to drug policy, the opioid crisis has emerged as a primary point of contention as a direct result of the policies enacted by the administration of President Joe Biden. Drug overdose deaths are expected to increase by 28.5% between the years 2020 and 2021, as reported by the CDC. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that during the years 2020 and 2021, there was an increase of around 26 percent in the number of people who died as a result of an opioid overdose, reaching a total of 75,673 deaths.

The goal of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which created “National Fentanyl Awareness Day” in May of 2010, was to increase public awareness of deaths in the United States that were caused by fentanyl.
