The game was “called due to a shooting in the vicinity of the field,” according to La Salle.

A field hockey match between a college and a shooting range was postponed Friday afternoon.

At Philadelphia’s Howarth Field, home of Temple University, Saint Louis and La Salle were playing. This year, La Salle, another Philadelphia institution, will host its home games at the field.

The game was tied at 10:45 when there appeared to be gunshots.

In a short while, players, officials, and fans alike ran off the field to safety.

The game’s ESPN+ commentator reported that there were “loud noises” in the area and that the players were “evacuating” the field. While trying to find cover, the referee seemed to trip over one of the nets.

Someone was heard telling onlookers to “get down right now.”

According to Philadelphia Police, the incident happened in a neighbouring Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot.

According to Philadelphia Police, “no shooting victims were located,” and “the offender fled the scene prior to police arrival,” as Fox News Digital reported. “The area was guarded, no one was taken into custody, and no weapon was found. Central Detectives are conducting an aggressive and continuing investigation.”

Both the athletic websites of the two colleges and the Atlantic 10 website state that La Salle won 1-0.

X, the social media account for the Saint Louis field hockey program, announced that the game was “called due to a shooting in the vicinity of the field,” and that “everyone is safe.”

According to the Atlantic 10 website, 192 individuals attended.

An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by the athletic directors of either institution.
