After engaging in a fatal shootout with a suspect at a gas station in Victorville, California, a San Bernardo County Sheriff’s sergeant was shot twice on Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
The 16-year-old veteran is anticipated to make it after being shot in the thigh and shin.

“I’m happy to report that our sergeant won’t sustain any life-threatening injuries, and he will fully recover from this,” San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus informed reporters during a press briefing on Friday night.

He said that during the gunfight, the sergeant was wearing a body camera and that investigators would review surveillance footage from the gas station.
After authorities arrived on the scene in response to reports of a man threatening a woman with a gun, the suspect started shooting at the sergeant.

The suspect was shot and killed by the unidentified sergeant, according to Dicus.
To a hospital, the sergeant was airlifted.
