Southwestern Community College’s Jackson campus informed the college that local law enforcement is searching for a convicted felon.
According to a warning that was sent out by the institution, an individual who was wanted for the commission of a felony was located close to the Jackson campus of Southwestern Community College in Sylva, North Carolina, on Tuesday morning, when the college went into “emergency lockdown.” This was stated in a warning that was sent out by the institution.
It was first reported that there was an incident near school involving an “active shooter,” however the college later indicated that students were not in danger from the situation. The event was initially reported to have occurred near campus.
At precisely 12:01 in the afternoon, the lockdown that had been implemented at the school was ended. According to Southwestern, the law enforcement officials had been looking for a wanted criminal who was reportedly wearing body armor and had been on the run.
An update on the situation was offered by Southwestern at 11:05 in the morning, in which they stated that the man had initially gone to a forested area behind Lowe’s.
