Police arrested a Texas man after they said he shot and killed a suspect and then kidnapped his infant son early Saturday morning in Georgia.
Police had been called to a home on Carter Street’s 100 block around 6:30 a.m.
The gunman, identified as 23-year-old Demonte Everett Mayes Jr. of Arlington, Texas, according to police, shot 21-year-old La’Warrior Gardener and then kidnapped his biological child, 2-month-old Draco Leigh Mayes, before fleeing the scene.
Gardener was rushed to a nearby hospital by medics, where he died of his wounds.
Authorities released an Amber Alert and Levi’s Call for the Boy, notifying the kidnapping to state agencies.
Mayes was arrested without incident. Little Draco got a safe and sound recovery.
Officials have now convicted Mayes of murder, several counts of aggravated assault, and abduction. Supplementary charges may be applied.
