6 Ways You Can Cool Down Your Home During A Hot Day
SHARE

In summer, we love dipping into the water, whether the sea or a pool, for fun, to cool off the heat, and add a shimmer to the beautiful bronze glow that the sun leaves us with. We usually long to escape from the heat, however fun it is. At home, the AC is almost always on, which is great to cool down, but not so good for the electric bill and the environment.

The good news is there are other ways to cool down your home during those hot days and save energy. This is why we bring you this article. Here are 6 of the most effective ways to escape the blazing heat at home.

  • Put an Ice Bucket in front of Your Fan

On the warmer days, the air from the fan becomes hot, which doesn’t help when you need a fresh breeze away from the heat. One of the coolest hacks that work wonders is putting an ice bucket or a pan full of ice in front of your fan. You’ll get amazing cool air from the fan instead to refresh you on a hot day.

If you’re worried about the ice melting fast, you don’t need to, because even after it melts, the water will be cool for a while. You may need to get more ice later, but this little hack will keep the air chilly for long enough.

  • Install Power Efficient ACs

When it’s too hot, the only solution is the AC. The only problem with this is that they require a lot of energy, which results in a high electric bill. Another issue with regular ACs is that they’re not exactly eco-friendly, since some of the gasses they emit are harmful to the Ozone layer and contribute to global warming.

Science and technology have been trying to find solutions to make our lives easier without harming the environment, which is why mini-splits happened. They have many names, and one of the most popular ones is ductless AC. The mini-splits or Ductless Air Conditioner machines are excellent for cooling down and moderating temperature, and they’re eco-friendly as well. They’re also great energy saves because the way they work is by absorbing the heat in your place, while they purify the air.

  • Have Plants Inside and Outside

There are many ways that plants can help cool the air. Trees, for example, can add shade to your house and block some of the sunlight from entering your windows. Another way plants help reduce summer heat is when they’re wet from being watered – this helps break down the heat.

Another pretty cool thing that plants do is that they will drink up some extra water sometimes. Same as any creature would, they have to cool themselves down by giving their leaves some extra hydration when it gets too hot, helping them survive waves of high temperatures. This process is called transpiration, which is very similar to sweating in humans and many animals.

  • Shut Your Blinds When It’s Too Sunny

As beautiful as the sun is, on a hot summer day, it’ll make the house feel like a furnace. To keep this unbearable heat away, shut your blinds to block out the sun. You may also want to close your curtains as well as an extra layer to keep the heat away.

It can be a bit uncomfortable to some, especially people who like to let in natural light. In this case, don’t use dark blinds, instead get zebra blinds since they allow smooth transition from day to night easily and are adjustable to how much light and privacy you want your room to receive. Buy light-colored curtains that won’t absorb the heat, and will also let in some daylight, while blocking as much heat as possible.

  • Wear Breathable Fabrics

One of the best fabrics to wear on a hot day is cotton. It’s breathable, light, and comfortable, so you can bear the heat a little more. Cotton is also your best choice for bed sheets and pillowcases during summer. It’ll help you cool down faster and sleep better.

  • Turn Off Unused Electronics

Any electric gadgets emit heat. It can be different from one machine to another, but the fact remains that they all heat up a bit, which definitely adds to the current heat. Since it’s already hot outside, and it’s inevitable that some of this heat will enter your home, you don’t need anything to add to the temperature there.

To avoid that, you need to turn off any electric appliances you’re not using. You’ll be saving energy, which helps both your electric bill and the environment.

Trying to create a cool, chill environment during hot summer days may sound impossible, but with the tips and tricks above, it’ll be easy. Remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, because higher temperatures will have your body using the water stored inside it to resist it.
