A daily skincare routine can improve your overall skin texture and health. No matter what your skin type is, a basic skincare routine involves cleansing your face, putting on moisturiser, and using sunblock during the day.

Here is how to build the best routine for your skin.

Morning Routine  Night Routine

Morning Routine

  1. Cleansing

Gentle cleansing helps remove oil and residues that are built up overnight. Choose a cleanser that doesn’t leave your skin dry and tight after washing.

Product to Try: Try oil cleansers, as they remove impurities but are still gentle on the skin.

Pros: Oil cleansers have a better cleansing capability. A study found that using an oil cleanser required less rubbing force as it has a better cleansing ability and is good for dermatitis patients in which rubbing their skin when removing their makeup cosmetics can worsen the symptoms (1). Another study suggests that compared to other cleansers, oil cleansers do a better job at removing waterproof sunblock (2).

  • Moisturizing

It hydrates and softens the skin. Daily moisturising revitalises and replenishes skin radiance.

Product To Try: If you have a dry skin type, opt for a cream or balm. Thicker creams work best on normal or combination skin and serums and gels are recommended for oilier types.

Pros: Moisturizer directly provides water to the skin and reduces trans-epidermal water loss (3).  It also provides a protective film over the skin and protects skin from friction. CBD skincare products, moisturiser in particular, have anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent skin issues by protecting your skin’s barrier.

  • Applying Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a critical step in the morning skincare routine. It not only protects you against skin cancer but also reduces the sign of ageing by protecting against UV rays.

Product To Try: The American Cancer Society (4) recommends applying broad spectrum sunscreens that protect against UVA and UVB rays of the sun.

Pros: Using sunblock can protect the skin against the damaging effects of the sun, premature ageing and lowers the risk of skin cancer.

Night Routine

  1. Exfoliating

Daily exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and improves skin surface and texture.

  • Eye Cream

Using a hydrating eye cream at night can cause water retention that makes eyes look puffy in the morning. It can improve fine lines, dryness, and fatigue around the eyes.

Pros: Applying eye cream overnight gives the product a chance to penetrate your skin. Studies suggest that eye creams help improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, puffiness, and fine and coarse wrinkles (5).

  • Night Cream or Face mask

At night, your body is in repair mode. Day creams are designed to protect the skin while night creams help cell repair.
