Rats

The rat is probably the most common pest in the world. Rats are well-known pests that gnaw on wires and furniture, carry illnesses, and leave copious amounts of droppings.

Rats also reproduce rapidly and can quickly infest a home or business. They enjoy hiding in walls and basements where it’s cool, so if you notice or hear rodents in your home or office, call a rodent control and removal service to conduct a thorough inspection.

Bedbugs

Bedbugs are small, dark red parasites that feed on the blood of humans and animals by biting their exposed skin.

Although bedbugs are not known to transmit illness, they can cause various health problems and extreme discomfort. Professional bed bug removal is essential if you suspect you have bedbugs.

Termites

Termites are one of the worst residential pest control problems. While these small insects don’t sting, bite, contaminate your food, or spread illness like some other pests, termites can cause serious structural damage to your home if left unchecked.

Termites can chew through and harvest any wooden components of your property, including floorboards, joists, and stud walls.

Sheild Bugs

Although brown shield bugs – also known as stink bugs- are generally harmless to people, they can cause damage to flowers and fruit plants. As a result, you should take preventative measures against stink bugs if you have a vegetable or flower garden in your yard.

Be sure to turn off outside lights at night to avoid attracting shield bugs to your property.

Squirrels

While squirrels might seem cuter than some of the other entries on this list, they can still pose a serious pest problem in your home.

To scavenge nest materials, squirrels can destroy insulation, paper goods, linens, textiles, or anything else you might have stored in your attic. The damage squirrels cause to attics can also lead to a slew of additional issues, such as electrical short-outs and water damage.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are disease vectors known to transport pathogens like salmonella, staphylococcus, and streptococcus.

These winged insects enter houses from sewers and drains. This means they will contaminate whatever they touch, including food, utensils, and kitchen surfaces. If you have issues with cockroaches, it’s best to get it dealt with ASAP before it really gets out of hand.

Household Pests Explained

Overall, these are the most common household pests that exist today. However, there are many more potential threats to your home environment lurking out there.

The key to the best pest control is a thorough and regular approach. A professional pest control service can help you stay on top of things.
