On Monday, July 21, 2025, the United Kingdom, France, and a host of European nations issued a joint statement putting more pressure on Israel, saying the war in Gaza “must end now” and Israel must comply with international law.
In the statement, the foreign ministers of countries including Australia, Canada and Japan said, “The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths.” They condemned “the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food.”
According to the figures released by Gaza’s Health Ministry and the U.N. human rights office, over 800 Palestinians seeking aid were killed. The statement described this incident as “horrifying.”
The statement said, “The Israeli government’s aid delivery model is dangerous, fuels instability and deprives Gazans of human dignity. It added, The Israeli government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law.”
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is an American contractor supported by Israel that receives the majority of the food supplies that Israel has let enter Gaza. According to witnesses and health officials, hundreds of Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli forces on the roads leading to the locations since the group’s operations started in late May.
The EU commissioner for equality, preparation, and crisis management, Hadja Lahbib, as well as the foreign ministers of roughly 20 European nations, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, signed the declaration. However, the United States and Germany were absent.
The nation called for an immediate ceasefire, adding that they are prepared to assist with a political pathway to peace in the region.
