Galsworthy was born into a wealthy and well-established family. His father, John Galsworthy Sr., was a successful lawyer and property developer, and his mother, Blanche Bailey Galsworthy. This privileged upbringing allowed him access to a high-quality education, attending Harrow School and later New College, Oxford, where he initially studied law. John was an excellent footballer and captained his house during his days at Harrow School.

Despite training as a lawyer, Galsworthy found little interest in pursuing a legal career. Instead, he turned to writing. His first four works were published under the pseudonym John Sinjohn because his dad was alive at the time. His first publication was in 1897 when he was 30 years old.

Galsworthy’s breakthrough came with the publication of “The Man of Property” in 1906, which became the first novel in “The Forsyte Saga.” This series, which explored the lives of the wealthy Forsyte family, is celebrated for its detailed social commentary and critique of the English upper middle class. The success of this series firmly established Galsworthy as a leading literary figure. “The Forsyte Saga” was adapted multiple times for television and film.

In addition to novels, Galsworthy was also an accomplished playwright. His plays often dealt with social issues, such as “Justice” (1910), which highlighted the need for prison reform, and “The Skin Game” (1920), which examined the effect of unrestrained capitalism on the lives of low-class people, which was his first box office success.

In 1932, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He was also a member of the Order of Merit and received honorary degrees from several universities, including Cambridge, Manchester, Oxford, Dublin, Sheffield, Princeton, and St Andrews.

John Galsworthy died at the age of 65 on January 31, 1933, but remains an important figure in English literature.

John Galsworthy married Ada Galsworthy in 1905 after a long and complicated relationship. Ada was initially married to Galsworthy’s cousin, Arthur Galsworthy, but the two fell in love and eventually married after her divorce. The couple had no children, but their relationship was one of deep companionship and mutual respect.

David Crosby was born to Academy Award-winning cinematographer Floyd Crosby and Aliph Van Cortlandt Whitehead, a salesperson. Crosby attended several schools, including the Crane Country Day and Cate School in Carpinteria, California.

Crosby briefly attended Santa Barbara City College, where he studied drama, but dropped out to pursue a music career. He began performing with several artists like singer Terry Callier and later Les Baxter’s Balladeers. In 1963, David recorded his first solo session.

David Crosby’s professional music career took off in 1964 when he joined The Byrds, a band that would become one of the pioneers of the folk-rock genre. With Crosby as a guitarist and vocalist, The Byrds achieved massive success with hits like “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “All I Really Want to Do.” However, creative differences and internal tensions led to his departure from The Byrds in 1967.

After leaving The Byrds, Crosby formed Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash in 1968. The group’s debut album, “Crosby, Stills & Nash” (1969), was a commercial success, featuring hits like “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” and “Marrakesh Express.” The trio’s intricate vocal harmonies and blend of folk, rock, and pop established them as one of the era’s most important acts. Neil Young joined the group in 1969, expanding it to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY), and they released the landmark album “Déjà Vu” (1970).

David also released several solo albums, starting with “If I Could Only Remember My Name” (1971). However, his solo work was less commercially successful than his collaborations.

Despite his musical achievements, Crosby’s career was marked by personal struggles, including battles with addiction and legal issues. He spent time in prison in 1985 for drug and weapons charges but emerged determined to turn his life around. Crosby experienced a creative resurgence in his later years, releasing new music and touring extensively.

He married Jan Dance in 1987, and the couple remained together until his death. Crosby had several children, some through relationships and others via sperm donation. He was the biological father of two children, James Raymond, a musician, and Erika Keller, and two children conceived through sperm donation for Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher: Bailey Jean and Beckett Cypher.
