Career
In the first round of the 1979 draft, the Los Angeles Lakers selected Magic. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson led the Lakers to the NBA title in Magic’s rookie campaign. Magic was named NBA Finals MVP. He won five NBA Championships while he was a member of the Lakers in 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988. From 1980 to 1982, and again in 1987, he was named NBA Finals MVP three times. He was recognized as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player thrice in 1987, 1989, and 1990. Magic went to the All-Star game twelve times, and twice, he took home the MVP trophy. As far as point guards go, he is considered the best to hold the position.
In 1991, Magic’s career ended after he developed HIV. Magic Johnson returned to the NBA as the Lakers’ head coach near the end of the 1993–94 regular season.
