Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has hinted at Press Conference today that He would wish to Buy a new center-back and Striker.
With over £160 spent, Chelsea is the top spending club in the Premier League in the transfer window. Chelsea have signed Marc Cucurella,Raheem Sterling,Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina.
The blues are also closing in on Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong after agreeing to £68 million transfer fees with Barcelona.
Chelsea is still in talks with Leicester City for Wesley Fofana. There are also reports that Chelsea is interested in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but Xavi is refusing to let the Gabonese international leave the Nou Camp.
Thomas Tuchel seems to have confirmed Chelsea’s interest in Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after admitting he would wish Chelsea to sign a center-back and a Striker.
What did Thomas Tuchel say?
The 48-year-old said when he was asked if he want to add a new center back to his squad: “We could use one more central defender if you look at the numbers. At the moment, we play with a back three and the profiles of the guys in the current back three are different.
“We play also with Azpilicueta, who is more of a full-back. With Marc Cucurella, it is also possible. So let’s see what happens.”
He further added signing a new Striker will be ideal after loaning Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.
“We could strengthen our squad in depth in both areas [central defense and striker]. It is one thing to wish for it, another to see if it is possible. We are looking for top-quality, personalities and characters that can compete on the highest level,” the German tactician added.
“We are calm and ambitious at the same time, and there are still some days to go until the end of the transfer period. Anything is possible until the end.”
Contrary to statements by Gary Neville and Paul Merson that Chelsea is panicking in the transfer market, Thomas Tuchel had retreated the fact that Chelsea is signing players who are 100 percent convinced by the Chelsea project.
He continued: “We will not panic and we will not try to sign players who we aren’t 100 percent convinced by. All of our signings so far have helped us. It is a day-by-day business now, to coach the team and not lose your head as a coach about what could be.
“We are ambitious and we work hard to maybe strengthen our squad further, but we’re calm. All the energy goes into the group that is here [at Cobham]. We still have time.”
Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Mateo Kovacic and Marcos Alonso will miss the London Derby.
On Marcos Alonso, he said: “He [Alonso] is not in training at the moment and is trying to finalize his transfer. He will not be available for Sunday’s game.
But hinted that Mateo Kovacic is suffering an injury.
“It is the same for Kovacic, who is injured unfortunately with his knee, there has been a reaction. We decided to take a step back, to increase treatment time to reduce the stress that comes from training to have a normal reaction before we start again. Everybody else is available.”
