Matthew Todd Lauer was born in New York City, USA, on December 30, 1957. He is 65 years old.

Matt is the son of businesswoman Marilyn Lauer and executive of a bicycle company, Jay Robert Lauer. Based on the Finding Our Roots segment of the Today Show, her father was of Romanian Jewish ancestry.

He went to Ohio University for graduation but left after being hired by WOWK-TV in Huntington, West Virginia, in 1979.

He started working there as a producer for the noon show and eventually worked his way up to becoming an on-air reporter for the newscasts at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. by 1980. Later, Lauer went back to Ohio University to finish his undergraduate studies. He was 39 years old when he graduated in 1997.

Matt Lauer began his career at WOWK-TV and worked on many shows.

Lauer made his debut on national television as co-host with Robin Leach of the ABC daytime series “Fame, Fortune and Romance,” a spin-off of the syndicated show “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” 

From 1987 through 1989, Lauer hosted shows in Philadelphia and Boston. In September 1989, he returned to New York City and began anchoring the WWOR-TV program “9 Broadcast Plaza,” but he did not stay with them for long.

Lauer joined NBC in 1992 as co-anchor of the morning news show “Today in New York,” which aired on the network’s New York flagship station WNBC every weekday.
