Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has praised Mason Mount and insisted that the 23 years old midfielder is an important part of the Chelsea squad despite missing his penalty against Liverpool in the final.
The defeat Liverpool is the sixth time Mason Mount had lost a final at the iconic Wembley stadium. the latest is the EPL Cup, and FA Cup against Liverpool, and the Euro 2020 with England during the summer.
Chelsea on the other hand, have won only one FA cup final in their last six attempts. Thomas Tuchel has also lost three consecutive finals at Wembley with two of them coming against Jurgen Klopp’s side and last year’s FA Cup final defeat to Leicester City.
Mason Mount is Chelsea’s top goal scorer in the Premier League with 11 goals and 10 assists for Chelsea. such an impressive number for a Midfielder. With double figures in both goals and assists in the Premier League, Mount is in contention of retaining his Chelsea player of the year award.
Thomas Tuchel admits he will not allow the missed Penalty against Liverpool to change his perception about the 23 years old midfielder and stressed how important Mason Mount is to the Chelsea team.
What did Thomas Tuchel say?
Speaking after the game via the Chelsea official website he said:” This penalty will change nothing.”
“You know my opinion about Mason. You see his record and the importance of the game which he plays.
“He plays consistently for us. He’s a key figure in this squad and this club, also because of where he comes from. He’s a super nice guy and we don’t doubt him now because he misses a penalty.’’
Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel believes Chelsea must strengthen his squad if they want to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool.
He revealed:” Maybe it’s impossible because they are improving their squad in every transfer window they have and it seems like we are losing key players”.
“We are of course losing Toni [Rudiger] and we are losing Andreas [Christensen]. It’s tough because we already have a gap to close.
“We proved four times this season that we can produce peak performances to compete with them on this kind of level. The difference for me throughout the season is that they can do it on Wednesday again and then they do it on Saturday and Wednesday again, and we struggle.
“They have a bigger squad available. They arrived with everybody except Fabinho fresh and in rhythm in a final like this. We struggled with three or four players out. N’Golo Kante had one training session at 50 percent intensity, Mateo Kovacic played with an ankle that I didn’t know was possible to fit into a shoe.
“They can produce these kinds of performances most often and they built this team for many years now and proved it, so this is where the gap is. The sanctions didn’t make it easier for us to close it.”
