There are reports that Arsenal wants to sign Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus this summer.
Gabriel Jesus has one year left on his contract and Arteta is keen to add the Brazilian to their attack next season.
Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry believes Gabriel Jesus will be a good signing for Manchester City and claims the Brazilian has that nine instinct.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal is the frontrunner to sign him, with technical director Edu approaching his representatives about a potential deal.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has criticized his team’s lack of goals this season and feels Jesus can add ruthlessness to his attack.
Arteta stated earlier this season what he is looking for in Arsenal’s new center-forward.
He said: ‘He puts the ball in the net, that’s priority number one. Goal threat. Any successful team needs enough goal threat in the squad. Without it, you have nothing. You can play good football but you need enough goal threat in the team.’
Thierry Henry has shared his admiration for the Manchester City attack and has approved for his former team to sign him
What was said?
On CBS Sports, the Frenchman was asked what he admires about Jesus and he said:
What he can give offensively to the team.
“We saw that he scored four goals at the weekend [against Watford]. When he is in the box, he’s one of the three that is playing, or since [Sergio] Aguero left, he has that nine instinct. He has what the number nine would smell.
‘What I like about him is that when he puts pressure, whether it’s on the left, on the right, or in the middle, he doesn’t have a problem defending in their situations by coming back and helping his team.’
Meanwhile, former Manchester United striker Luis Saha thinks Gabriel Jesus is not a clinical finisher.
According to the French international, the Brazilian loves to enjoy more of the ball than to score.
Speaking to Gambling Deals Saha said: “Sometimes he’s been criticized because he doesn’t have the ‘killer instinct’, something that Ruud van Nistelrooy had, or (Robert) Lewandowksi and all those players.
‘He’s been working hard for other players, but this is the style of Manchester City. He’s maybe not as deadly as some of the world’s best, but he can improve.
‘If he works hard in front of goal. (Currently), the emphasis is on him to link play, be very diverse, going left or right, because that’s what City needs. They need a lot of movement and he’s not really been able to play as a number nine.
‘The only one who managed to do that was Kun (Aguero), and he was an immense finisher. When you have that quality, Guardiola will say, ‘OK, put Kun on the field, he will do this (finish chances)’.
‘That’s not the best quality of Gabriel, but he may be able to adapt to a different style with Arsenal, they definitely need a striker if Lacazette is leaving.’
Gabriel Jesus has scored 94 goals in 231 appearances for City since joining from Palmeiras in 2017, winning three Premier League titles, three League Cups and the FA Cup, and two community shields.
