Charlie Austin has urged Liverpool to sign Chelsea Loanee Conor Gallagher as the long-term replacement for Jordan Henderson if he retires.
Conor Gallagher has been one of the breakthrough players of the 2021/2022 Premier League season. He has scored 8 goals and assisted 5 in 34 appearances.
His impressive performance this season earned a call-up to the England national team.
Thomas Tuchel has also insisted that the 22 years old midfielder will be part of his plans for next season at Chelsea.
However, Charlie Austin believes Liverpool should sign the Chelsea Loanee as the long-term replacement for Jordan Henderson.
What was said?
He told talkSport that: “I think any football team would love to have Conor Gallagher.
“He’s so energetic, you look at him the way he plays, I think a lot of football fans see him play and would think ‘I would like him to be at my club.'”
Asked by host Andy Goldstein if he would want the promising player at Liverpool, Austin replied: “I say yes.
“I said he would be, not a replacement, not saying this for Jordan Henderson.
“But when Jordan moves on, or retires, or comes into a new football role, he [Gallagher] would be great for Liverpool.”
“Him coming to Chelsea, I think it’s a perfect opportunity for him. As players, when an opportunity comes, you’ve got to take them and this one, I think Conor Gallagher will be looking at, as well as his representatives.
“Whether they are thinking about what we can do next year.
“I think he will be looking at it and thinking, ‘I’m going to try my best and give everything at Chelsea.'”
Meanwhile, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes Antonio Rudiger was also run his contract down
Ian Wright believes the German defender had already made up his mind of leaving Chelsea before the sanction was imposed by the Uk Government.
Speaking on The Kelly and Wright Show said: “I think that even before everything happened with the sanctions, I think his (Rudiger) mind was made up,” he said.
“He’s going to run that contract down so he can leave. We are hearing he will go to Madrid.
“I don’t think it helped him being ostracized under Frank (Lampard).”
He added:’’But when you look at the way it’s been managed at Chelsea.’’
“Guehi and Tomori, they were before Tuchel could get hold of them, then you’ve got Christensen and Azpilicueta coming out of contract and Rudiger may be leaving.
“You think to yourself ‘what is going on there at the moment?’”
We’ve been asking ourselves the same question for a while, Wrighty.
Chelsea is at the moment unable to sign or negotiate players’ contracts until the takeover is complete.
The owner of Chelsea Football Club Roman Abramovich was banned by the UK Government because of his close ties with Russian President Putin.
Chelsea has already lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta could also follow suit if his contract situation is not sorted out.
