In connection with the shooting, a woman thought to be the girlfriend of a guy accused of murdering three people and injuring a fourth in a property dispute in rural Colorado is being held.
The Custer County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado reported the arrest of Nancy Rae Medina-Kochis, 50, in New Mexico on Thursday. It stated she is suspected of being an accessory to a crime, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation into the shooting that murdered Robert Geers, 63, his wife Beth Wade Geers, 73, and James Daulton, 58, near Westcliffe, Colorado, some 77 miles (124 kilometers) southwest of Colorado Springs. Patty Daulton, Daulton’s wife, was also injured.
According to court filings, as Robert Geers was speaking with a surveyor, their neighbor, Hanme Clark, screamed about trespassing and then began firing.
Clark was apprehended in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Tuesday after nearly 25 hours on the run. Medina-Kochis was with him at the time and is thought to be his girlfriend, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Reggie Foster.
A query left for the 11th District Judicial District Attorney’s office on whether prosecutors had filed charges against Clark or Medina-Kochis was not responded immediately Friday.
It is unknown if Clark or Medina-Kochis are represented by attorneys.
Other neighbors who were not involved in the shooting have accused Clark of harassing them, refusing them court-ordered access to a portion of his land, and putting signs indicating that he was armed, according to court papers.
