Authorities in Tennessee said Monday that they had arrested a man after his dead ex-girlfriend was found in his closet, stuffed in a plastic container, and stabbed.
Irene Torres, 24, was stabbed to death, according to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, and Dwayne Herelle Jr., 28, was charged with criminal homicide in her death.
Investigators said that Herelle and Torres had a confrontational encounter outside of Herelle’s Old Hickory house on Sunday between 1:30 and 2 a.m.
Herelle admitted to stabbing Torres in the course of the altercation when questioned by police.
Investigators contend that after driving his ex-girlfriend across the county to his Bellevue apartment, Herelle put her inside the plastic container and buried her inside his closet.
Security footage outside Torres’ home was reviewed by her parents, who observed Herelle removing her, according to authorities.
Herelle informed the officers that Torres was not in the apartment when they arrived to look for her and that he hadn’t seen her since Friday.
Later, when Torres’ father visited the flat, Herelle reportedly informed him that his daughter was staying at a nearby hotel.
Herelle allegedly admitted to fatally stabbing Torres as he and his father were en route to the hotel, according to the detectives.
Herelle is being held without bail in connection with Torres’ murder.
