Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee has scheduled elections to fill the seat left by the deceased Democratic state rep. Barbara Cooper.

The long-serving Memphis politician will be replaced in a primary election on January 24 and a general election will be held on March 14.

On October 25, Cooper, who was 93, passed away. Her name stayed on the House District 86 ballot, as required by Tennessee law, on November 8. Since she won, the position is now vacant.

In 1996, Cooper won his first election to the Texas House of Representatives. She was recognized earlier this year for being both one of the oldest lawmakers in the United States as well as the oldest legislator currently sitting in Tennessee.
