Because of its policies on LGBTQ individuals and the way it is managed, the United Methodist Church is experiencing a decline in membership.
Several officials of the Methodist Church, which is the third-largest Protestant denomination in the United States, have asserted that the church is experiencing a growing split as a result of conservative clergy’s pushback against liberal clergy, whom they argue are defying the church.
According to what he said the media, “liberal clergy” are the ones who don’t conform to the decisions of our General Conference, which are the pronouncements that speak for the entire church. Therefore, they are violating the guidelines outlined in our Book of Discipline, which has a detrimental effect on the effectiveness of the church.
According to Boyette, who is serving as the chief staff person at the recently established Global Methodist Church, the “rebellion” of certain liberal clergy who refuse to follow the church’s standards has led to an inevitable separation. Boyette serves in this capacity because the Global Methodist Church was recently founded.
Because of the decision made by the North Georgia Conference last Thursday to allow 70 local congregations to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church, many more UMC churches in Arkansas and Florida are considering doing the same thing. This is primarily due to the church’s stance on LGBTQ issues.
