Get ready for some inspiring news, 1000-lb Sisters fans! Tammy Slaton has lost a reported 299 lbs after receiving her weight loss surgery with Dr. Eric Smith.
Tammy’s journey toward wellness began when the show premiered in January 2020, when she watched her sister Amy and her brother Chris receive bariatric surgery while she stayed on the sidelines.
Season Four of 1000-lb Sisters
Season Four of 1000-lb Sisters documented Tammy’s journey in weight loss rehab. Tammy was 717 pounds, and to be eligible for bariatric surgery needed to reach her goal weight, which was set at 550 pounds. Tammy managed to actually exceed this goal, weighing in at 534 pounds. In an exclusive clip shared by Parade, you can witness Tammy’s amazement when she was finally approved for the surgery.
It’s been quite the ride for Tammy to achieve this milestone. She had to put in a lot of effort to lose enough weight to qualify for her bariatric surgery. But she did it! Tammy finally got the procedure done in November 2022. Now approximately six months later, her transformation is astonishing.
Bariatric Surgery
We spoke to Jenn Christine, CEO of Be Slim Bariatrics (BSB), a U.S.-based provider of bariatric surgery in Mexico, about Tammy’s weight loss journey.
“Tammy is clearly very determined and has so much to be proud of. It’s great to see her doing so well following her weight loss surgery. The one thing I would say is if you are concerned about your weight, it’s better to seek help earlier rather than getting to the stage where you are too heavy to safely undergo bariatric surgery.”
Jenn went on to explain: “Unfortunately, due to the high cost of bariatric surgery in the U.S., many people simply can’t afford it. As the CEO of BSB, I consider it a huge privilege to be able to help people to obtain safe weight loss surgery in Tijuana, Mexico, with board-certified surgeons at modern hospitals. As a corporate member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) council, it’s wonderful to know that we are part of a group that is significantly altering the lives of numerous individuals who are struggling with obesity.”
While we aren’t sure which procedure Tammy chose, common options include gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and mini gastric bypass. Each operation reduces the size of the stomach, leading to long-lasting weight loss. The surgery can also reverse serious health problems linked to obesity, such as diabetes 2, heart disease, and sleep apnea.
