For some people, lifting weights may be the way to go, while others may prefer to run. For mental health, there are several different tactics and strategies that can help you stay healthy – but every person is different.

How to Stay Mentally Healthy

Journal

An effective way to sort out why you’re feeling bad is to write it all down. Sometimes, especially when faced with complex situations and emotions, it can be hard to figure out why you feel the way you do.

Writing out a clear description of what you are feeling and what made you feel that way can help you pinpoint the problem. Knowing what the issue is can be the first step in solving it.

At the very least, journaling regularly will give you some structure and time alone each day. Slowing down to reflect can never be a bad thing. Do your best to set aside a dedicated time slot each day to write about your feelings.

Find Someone to Talk to

Similar to journaling, finding someone to talk to when you are feeling low can be effective at making you feel better. Just being able to vent your feelings can help you articulate your problems and get them out.

Additionally, talking to someone you trust like a family member or friend may provide you with some advice. A new point of view on what you’re facing can offer a fresh perspective, and maybe even some solutions,

Of course, if you find yourself constantly feeling low and mentally unwell, you should talk to a trained professional. Therapists can provide regular support, and if you’re worried that you’re facing an actual mental illness, you should ask your doctor to refer you to a psychologist who can explore further treatment options.

You may find that Mental Health & CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is a beneficial treatment as it provides coping strategies and alters patterns of thinking.

Be Proactive About Maintaining Your Mental Health

Learning how to stay mentally healthy can be difficult, but it’s worth the effort. We all have a limited amount of time on the Earth, and you owe it to yourself to feel good during that time.

While the above tips are a good place to start, they are by no means exhaustive. Find what works for you and your mental health, and keep at it.
