Many Republican candidates for the Senate have made addressing the issue a central tenet of their candidacies since major cities across the country are experiencing an uptick in the rate of violent and property crime.
A recent poll reveals that respondents believe Republicans are better qualified to handle the problem that is now of greater significance to them than abortion. The midterm elections in November are just a few short weeks away.
According to the survey that was conducted for ABC News by Langer Research Associates in New York City, the top three issues that voters consider to be “highly important” as the midterm elections draw near are the economy (89%), education (77%), and inflation (76%). However, crime, with 69% of the vote, came in ahead of abortion, which received 62% of the vote.
The media reached out to political experts on both the left and the right to get their take on whether the focus on crime rates by the Republican Party in key midterm battleground states is having an effect on the midterm momentum of the Democratic Party in the polls. The goal of this effort was to gain a better understanding of whether or not the GOP’s focus on crime rates is having an effect.
