75 Iranian-made drones were launched into the north-central region, causing damage to multiple structures, including a kindergarten.
Russia launched its most intense drone bombardment on Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv since the start of its full-scale invasion on Saturday morning, injuring five people, military officials said.
According to Ukraine’s air force, 75 Iranian-made drones were launched into the north-central region, with at least 70 being destroyed by air defense.
According to Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, at least five individuals were injured in the hours-long drone attack, including an 11-year-old child.
As falling debris showered down from the skies, causing fires, the attacks from the north and east damaged multiple structures, including a kindergarten.
The assault began at 4 a.m. local time and lasted for more than six hours in waves. According to Serhii Popko, the head of the Kyiv city administration, the offense caused power disruptions in 77 residential structures and 120 organizations.
According to Ukraine’s Energy Ministry, 17,000 people were left without power in the Kyiv region as a result of the attack, which damaged four power lines.
The Russian assault was “the most massive air attack by drones on Kyiv,” according to Popko.
“We keep working to strengthen our air defense and unite the world in the fight against Russian terror,” Zelenskyy said in a statement on X.
“The terrorist state must be defeated and held accountable for its actions.”
Zelenskyy further remarked that the attacks took place on the anniversary of the Holodomor famine, also known as the Great Ukrainian Famine, which killed millions of Ukrainians between 1932 and 1933.
“Russia’s leadership appears to be proud of its ability to kill people,” he said.
Last week, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Kyiv and stated that the Pentagon would deploy an additional $100 million in arms to Ukraine, including artillery and air defense missiles.
