Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand had revealed that Chelsea Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has become Thomas Tuchel’s main cause of concern this season.
Edouard Mendy’s form has dipped from the latter part of last season to this season. The Senegalese international error in the Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid to gift Karim Benzema for his hat trick and Real Madrid’s third in the first leg was crucial in deciding the tie.
The 2021 FIFA Men’s best goalkeeper has been a pale shadow of himself and had kept only one clean sheet in six games and had conceded nine goals this season so far.
His ability to play with his feet was clear in Chelsea’s embarrassing defeat to Leeds United. The Chelsea shoot stopper had been struggling to deal with set pieces of late as his poor judgment resulted in a West Ham opener and was lucky to be saved by Var.

The Manchester United Icon revealed on his YouTube Channel Vibe with five, saying: “I think the biggest thing for Chelsea from this game is Edouard Mendy is becoming far too involved in situations like this.
“Against Leeds, he was at fault for the first goal. This one as well. There have been other occasions where he’s made mistakes and hasn’t been punished.
“They need to iron that out quick because he was brilliant last season. He was phenomenal.
“He needs to eradicate those mistakes from his game. You don’t want to be in the news as a goalkeeper. The less you talk about them, the better they’re doing. At the moment, he’s also in the news.”
Reacting to Edouard Mendy’s recent errors and mistakes after Chelsea 2-1, Thomas Tuchel said: “I think at the moment he is unlucky in what he is doing.
“In training, he is fantastic, and he is, in general, a very calm and self-reflective guy who is aware that he lacks a little bit of luck at the moment.
“Things do not go in his favor. If he has maybe a situation where his action isn’t 100% clear, he gets punished for it massively.
“He is just in this moment, and it feels like it’s not so much his fault. I have the feeling because he tries everything. He is very calm and focused. We will keep on supporting him.”
There are calls by Chelsea fans and other pundits for Thomas Tuchel to bench Edouard Mendy for at least three games for the Senegalese international to regain his form.
